Issue 26 of Fence features Denis Johnson's play Des Moines, in its entirety. Join us at the cell for a reading of this intense, quixotic, semi-tragic romp staged by Evenstar Films, the production company that made the beautiful film Jesus's Son, based on Johnson's indelible story collection. After the reading Johnson will participate in a Q&A, and then we will mill about with drinks, and toast to Fence, its commitment to the irreducible glories and partially harnessed glamour of the Word.
